What appealed to me most about this book was the subtitle “How a Small Investor Can Make it BIG”. Honestly, I suffer from fear of success more than fear of failure. I know, it’s a weird concept and I’ll spend time talking about that in another post.
Brian started out as a teacher who knew he needed a side income. He bootstrapped his first commercial property, made a bunch of mistakes, but still ended up doing well. From his humble beginnings, he went on to build a large portfolio of properties and a thriving real estate business providing others with a source of income.
I HIGHLY recommend this book – definitely 5 stars. First, I enjoyed learning about Brian’s actual story. I love learning about an investor’s journey to wealth because they are all so varied and unique.
Second, Brian’s book is filled with practical tips for everything from finding the right deals to financing to growing a real business. He advocates for the small, local investor and shows how this is a competitive advantage over large corporate investors. I’ve found this to be true. Large corporate investors are not even looking at the 5-20 unit apartments. It’s too small of a deal for them which means a big opportunity for those just starting out in real estate because there is hardly any competition!
I also appreciate his attention to his own employees. He is definitely building a company that is not only building wealth for his family, but providing a nice place for people to live and employment for others.
