Mailbox Money

Remember when you opened your mail and received an unexpected check? Maybe it was a birthday gift from a grandparent, a refund from your insurance company, an overpayment on your medical bills (because they REALLY struggle with accurate billing…ugh), or the infamous tax return.

It’s a great feeling, right? It’s always nice having a few extra dollars to throw into your bank account (or just cash them and go buy yourself a new shirt!).

Well, what if you could get Mailbox Money on a steady basis? One of my investments was a single-family home we owned in Indiana. We purchased the home when we lived there for a few years (my twins were born there…..such fond memories), then when we were relocated to Utah for my husband’s job we decided to keep the home and rent it. The real estate market was sluggish for sales but great for rentals.

We briefly considered managing the property ourselves, but quickly decided it was too much of a hassle when living out-of-state. I hired a property management company who took the reins. We moved to Utah, settled in with our three little kids and within two months, we received a check in the mail for $950. Hmm….that was nice. And the checks came like clockwork. Every month we received a check.

Guess how often I thought about that property in Indiana? Yep, once a month when I received the check. Ok, ok, once in a while I got an email asking to authorize a repair or telling me the tenant wanted to move. But the majority of the time, I didn’t have to lift a finger or worry about it.

No middle-of-the night calls. No leaky toilets. No evictions.

That is true passive income. And that is the power of real estate. Yes, I did my due diligence up front. I made sure the property management company I hired was reputable. I made sure the numbers worked financially. I established expectations on communication with those taking care of my property. But once it started, it was smooth sailing.

Mailbox Money. You need it. And you can get it by investing passively with Steady Stream Investments.
